We think you should be able to see exactly how this site makes money, and what that money does and doesn't influence. This page explains both in plain English.

The short version

Nothing on this site can be bought your way up the rankings. Salon order is worked out by a formula from public review data. No business can pay us to rank higher, and no advertiser gets a better position because they advertise.

How we make money

1. Advertising

We show display adverts, managed for us by Mediavine. Adverts are chosen and placed by the advertising system, not hand-picked by us, and we are paid based on how many people see them.

• Adverts are always visually distinct from salon listings.
• Advertisers cannot buy a position in any ranked list, city page or "best of" page.
• Advertising money is not connected to which salons we include or how we order them.

2. Paid listing enhancements

Business owners can pay to add extra content to their own listing — for example photos, a fuller description, or additional business information. This is optional, and it changes what appears on that business's own page only.

Corrections are always free. If any detail we hold about a business is wrong, we will fix it at no cost, whether or not the owner ever pays us for anything. Removing a listing is also free. Paying only ever adds content — it never buys accuracy, and it never buys position.

What money does not affect

• Rankings. Salon order comes from a weighted average of public star ratings and review counts, applied identically to every business.
• Reviews. We never edit, remove or reorder customer reviews on a business's behalf, paid or not.
• Inclusion. Businesses are listed because they exist and serve the area, not because they pay.
• Corrections. Always free, always actioned on merit.

If we ever change this

If we ever introduce paid or sponsored placement in listings, it will be clearly labelled as such wherever it appears, and this page will be updated to say so before it goes live.
